Brain-Computer Interface (BCI)

19 March 2024
Online Event

This deep and interactive panel discussion is part of the TechBlick Health Tech Series and is curated by Mr. Afred Poor

The mysteries of the brain are being revealed almost daily from new research. One of the most exciting areas is the development of brain/computer interface (BCI) technology. This research has already resulted in modern miracles, from controlling powered prosthetic limbs, to allowing paralyzed patients to walk again, to translating brain activity to type or spoken words. And the interface can work in the opposite direction to restore hearing or vision. This session will cover a wide range of exciting applications for BCI research.

Panel 1: BCI technology has led to dramatic gains in patient mobility, from smart prosthesis to powered exoskeletons. Where are we now, and what are the barriers to broader acceptance.

Panel 2: BCI is helping patients communicate with their world, through both implants and non-invasive sensors. What are the advantages and potential gains from these different approaches?
